When and why was Arslantepe included on the UNESCO World Heritage List?

Arslantepe Mound was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on July 26, 2021. This recognition stems from the fact that its palace complex, dating back to the 4th millennium BC, concretely demonstrates the first state formation process in the Near East, with traces of early bureaucracy and centralized administration. Furthermore, the world's oldest known metal swords found at Arslantepe provide unique evidence of the military and social dimensions of this development.
